De los tres mencionados, Bacharach es quien ha tenido un absoluto perfil bajo durante muchos años, comprensiblemente, pues no interpreta sus composiciones y además no es letrista (esta función siempre le correspondió a Hal David). Pero es innegable que muchos de los clásicos del pop sesentero son canciones compuestas por este señor que siempre aparece acicalado en su traje de gala y con una sonrisa de diente a diente. Aunque dudo que alguna vez haya entendido de qué anda el rock y más bien su imagen del baladista debe corresponder al crooner de los años 50, es y debe ser considerado con todo derecho como un genio del pop. Aunque la canción I just don't know what to do with myself ya había sido interpretada unos años antes, es con la glamorosa bisexual Dusty Springfield que se convirtió en un hit en el año 1964. Casi cuarenta años después, en 2003 los White Stripes nos entregaron un revulsivo cover para su álbum Elephant, cuyo video oficial tiene el atractivo de contar con la más que insinuante Kate Moss en un nunca desperdiciado espectáculo de contorsionismo alrededor de una barra.
